Saint Raphael has been a cornerstone in the City of San Rafael since the city’s inception. Beginning with the founding of Mission San Rafael, and continuing with the establishment of the parish and Saint Raphael School, this institution has served the community for more than 150 years — providing for its spiritual needs, assisting the poor, educating citizens and leaders, and preserving San Rafael’s heritage as a Mission city.
While the buildings and facilities of the parish and school have undergone changes over the years, it has been many years since any major upgrades. The ravages of time, in concert with the changing needs of our parish and school community, make it necessary to address these needs today so that our parish is prepared to continue to serve our community into the future.
The Campaign for Saint Raphael is a comprehensive and multi-year effort which will enable the parish to address a number of critical needs throughout the entire campus, including the Church, Mission and Plaza, Parish Center, School, Rectory and St. Sylvester Chapel. Details on these projects can be found on Plans and Renderings.
The Campaign for Saint Raphael will restore the beauty and functionality of our buildings, renew our spaces with updated equipment and current technologies, and revitalize our community, programs, ministries, and activities. In short, the Campaign will transform the buildings and facilities of Saint Raphael into welcoming, beautiful, safe, accessible, and fully functional spaces so they can better serve the needs of the parish and the community.
I invite you to learn more about the campaign and our plans for the campus on this website. Then, please consider how you might help us bring this vision to reality as we journey together into an exciting future for Saint Raphael.

Bathroom Renovation to Begin Soon
Plans are complete and bids are being sought for complete renovations to the bathrooms in the Church, Mission and School. Although not a glamorous project, having brand new facilities will be much appreciated and is long over-due. Construction is slated to begin in the church and Mission bathrooms in mid-May, and in the school bathrooms this summer.
Rectory Painting Underway
Another campaign project has begun! To mitigate years of neglect, Kunst Bros. painting has begun painting the exterior of the Rectory. “We were going to wait until we could renovate the entire Rectory, but the woodwork on the window sills and trim was beginning to rot, so we decided to act now before there was further damage,” explained Fr. John.
